Zomato website hacked

The media reported that the online restaurant ordering website Zomato had been hacked and the user data including email ids for 17 millon users was dumped on the darkweb, and was listed for sale for $1000. This again highlights the risk involved in using websites for ordering online, as the websites may be hacked and data stolen, distributed online .
For indian users, the danger is limited because a OTP is usually required for completing any kind of online transaction , however there is always a risk that the credit card data will be misused for foreign transactions. So before promoting a website which allows online ordering of a product or service, there should be proper systems to ensure that the data cannot be leaked,
For ordering food online, cash on delivery is a safer option compared to credit card payment.
